Our Nations Capital

Many years ago I lived just outside of our nation's capital.  I always loved going into the city as I thought it so beautiful and vibrant.  Our recent visit proved that it is still one of our best assets - politics aside!!  We were there during the Cherry Blossom Festival which added to the beauty of the Capital and we truly enjoyed the sites.

First, a look at the Capital and White House.  A visitor can no longer visit the Capital building or the White House unless you talk to your Congress member way ahead of time (which we didn't know and we didn't do!) and reserve the visit way ahead of time (which we also didn't know and didn't do!).  The required security these days prevents some visits.  Sad ... but what can you do ... there are a lot of 'crazies' out there!

The Capital itself is also undergoing a 'refurb' project and there was a bit of scaffolding around the dome and along one wing of the Capital itself.  So, with all that in mind here are some photos I bet you all will recognize:

Since we found we could not visit
inside the Capital we took in all 4
sides of it!  Some folks don't think
about seeing what the back of it
looks like!

Did anyone out there know that these lovely and unique
lamp posts are behind the Capital in the plaza?

The same plaza has a marble 'pond' which caught interesting reflective images of the Capital dome.

The marble reflecting pool reminded me of the reflecting pools at the Louvre in Paris!

The flag over the back of the
Capital and in front of the
          lovely scaffolding!!!

The grounds of the Capital are also beautiful as all trees bud for spring and fill in for summer.

During an evening visit I shot some photos too!

Next up ... the White House.  Remember that we could only see the outside of it as we failed to go through all the steps ahead of time required to go inside and tour; but, it is still lovely.

Office of the First Lady

The Oval Office-(note the rounded roof) and the West Wing.

Would anyone out there like to live on Pennsylvania Avenue?

Security is extremely high these days in Washington and it is very evident at the White House from gates to secret service guards to lots of extra secret service staff.

Hope you enjoyed the Capital and the White House!  Of course there is tons to see in Washington so you all know there will be additional chapters coming soon that will show you other interesting sites that we saw. ☺

More soon ❕🌷🐾🐾

I didn't see the Cherry Blossom's. Did you miss them or did they get messed up with crazy weather earlier this year? Our spring blooms did well. I have pictures that I will post on facebook soon.
