# 12 Budapest, Hungary

Budapest, Hungary
Good morning to Budapest!

Budapest is the capital and the most populous city of Hungary, and the tenth-largest city in the European Union by population within city limits.  Budapest is both a city and county, and forms the center of the Budapest metropolitan area.  Budapest is located on both sides of the Danube River.  The side with the iconic government building everyone sees on the commercials for cruising the Danube is the Pest side.  The Buda side also had lovely things to see.

This was a combination bus/walking tour that on our last day of this extensive trip was a bit strenuous!  Photos from the bus mostly did not turn out, while photos during the walking tour did; however, there isn’t really much to say about the photos other than they were points of interest we quickly walked by and I took photos of what I could! Anyway I hope you like them!

Matthias Church is a Roman Catholic Church located in front of the Fisherman’s Bastion at the heart of Buda’s Castle District. According to church tradition, it was originally built in Romanesque style in 1015, although no archaeological remains exist. The current building was constructed in the florid late Gothic style in the second half of the 14th century and was extensively restored in the late 19th century. It was the second largest church of medieval Buda and the seventh largest church of the medieval Hungarian Kingdom.

Models of the Fisherman's Bastion and photos of the outside of Matthias Church, we were not able to view the inside.

The Hungarian Parliament Building, also known as the Parliament of Budapest after its location, is the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, a notable landmark of Hungary.  It is situated in Kossuth Square, in the Pest side of the city and on the banks of the Danube. It is currently the largest building in Hungary. It was in neo-Gothic style and opened in 1902.  We enjoyed a night cruise on the Danube and here are some photos of the night sights.

I hope you enjoyed your vicarious trip through Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Slovakia and Hungary.

More coming soon 😊
