Las
Vegas with a side trip to Hoover Dam
Ah
Las Vegas, sin city, ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas’! I’m sure everyone has heard these quips and
for some they may be very descriptive of their visit to Vegas. But for us, on this visit, we ventured in for
the atmosphere, the scenery and the lights!!
No, really! Ok, ok, we gambled a
little, but truly only a little … we don’t like to lose!!!!
We
spent time wandering in and out of all the casinos, many of which have very
entertaining and interesting scenery.
Like The Flamingo with her GIANT Pink Flamingos! Or Caesars Palace with the Roman design
throughout the casino. The Venetian, New York New York, Excalibur, Luxor, Wynn, Bellagio,
Paris, and Sunset Station just for a few!
We enjoyed the various shops and places to eat. New Year’s Eve was quite a party of over
300,000 people!!! It seemed everyone was
holding everyone else up ….. We’re old, we didn’t stay long! Ha-ha …

Shopping at Caesar's Palace was varied and extensive! You can buy anything you may want including clothing, handbags, jewelry, fine art, photographic art, big boy and little boy toys, and the same for the girls, plus eat at every foodie you could possibly think of!!

During our travels we have found that we enjoy
unusual museums and we found one in Las Vegas called ‘The Neon Museum’. This is a non-profit museum whose purpose is to
save the old neon signs that in the past helped make Las Vegas history. They are preserving retired signs from casinos,
restaurants, specialty signs like Liberace’s signature and the Rhinestone
Cowboy.
We also spent an evening on ‘Freemont Street’. The Fremont Street Experience is a pedestrian mall and attraction in downtown Las Vegas. It occupies the westernmost five blocks of Fremont Street, including the area known for years as "Glitter Gulch". The central attraction is a barrel vault canopy, 90 ft. high at the peak and four blocks, or approximately 1,500 ft. in length.
While Las Vegas is known
for never turning the outside casino lights off, each show begins by turning
off the lights on all of the buildings, including the casinos, under the
canopy. Before each show, one bidirectional street that crosses the Experience
is blocked off for safety reasons. Blogger has set limits the size of video clips but here is a short one that will give you and idea of what the show on 'Freemont Street' is all about.
We took a side trip to Hoover Dam one day. Went for a tour underneath the dam which was
way different than I thought it would be!
First of all it was super clean under there, and it was actually rather
artistic!
