Bandelier National Monument and Santa Fe NM

Bandelier National Monument and Santa Fe NM

Bandelier National Monument allowed us to explore ancient Native American Pueblo cliff dwellings, petroglyphs, broad mesas and steep walled canyons.   In particular we visited the ‘Tyuonyl Pueblo’ dated to more than 600 years ago.

Santa Fe is a beautiful New Mexico landmark filled with artists with many talents including dance, theatre, film, oils, acrylics, carvings, sculpting and, well, you get the idea.  Besides being New Mexico’s Capitol it is a city filled with history and culture.

It is home to the St. Francis Cathedral famous not only for how long it has been in existence but for the amazing spiral staircase in the main sanctuary.  Look at this beauty dedicated in 1886!

The original staircase is shown here on the left.  As you can see it did not have a hand rail

nor did the balcony

 have a banister.

 This made the
staircase look as
though it was simply
 floating.

The banister was
requested by the
Sister's for safety
 issues.
Here is what the
staircase looks like
today.  Still floating
 and still lovely.
