Anheuser-Busch
Brewery and Clydesdale Tour
We
made our way to St. Louis and had a wonderful visit. One of the first places we toured was the Anheuser-Busch
Brewery which included the Brewery Carriage House for the Clydesdales! They are such beautiful animals! The
Clydesdales are the horses used for promotions and commercials by the
Anheuser-Busch Brewing Company. There
are eight horses driven at any one time but there are ten on each team allowing
for alternates if needed for the hitch team.
The Budweiser Clydesdales were a gift to the brewery’s CEO from his son
to celebrate the repeal of prohibition.
We toured the ‘carriage house’ and only saw a couple of the Clydesdales
and that was just enough to wet my whistle!!
At some point I want to go to the Warm Springs Ranch near Booneville
Missouri where the majority of the Clydesdales are cared for and live …
visitors are welcome!
The
tour of the brewery in St. Louis was exceptional. Built in 1852 in the Romanesque style the
original buildings have been beautifully maintained and are still in use today,
and are designated as a National Historic Landmark District. The tour took us through the beer being made,
bottled, and packaged. The brewery
itself was named a National Historic Landmark in 1966, recognizing the
company’s importance in the history of beer brewing and distribution around the
world. The Brew House is known for its
multi-storied hop chandeliers, intricate iron-work and utilization of natural
light. And of course, we got free beer
after the free tour … the best!! Enjoy
the photos.
